Don't Call Me Crazy

Don’t Call Me Crazy

By Octavia Grant

The narrative tells a tale intertwining two central characters, Ivory Addison and Amalia Havoc. Don’t Call Me Crazy, is a compelling short story. It’s a very short read and so I was mildly put out that the first chapter appears choppy, BUT I didn’t let that stop me and I am so glad I didn’t.

The story introduces Ivory as an investigative reporter, she interviews Amalia on her crime spree and what leads her to the way of crime. Ivory was giving very much privileged vibes. Before she met Amalia, she already had it in her mind that the woman was evil beyond measure. And I didn’t like that for Ivory. I was feeling everything Amalia was putting down. The story takes an emotional turn as Amalia divulges her childhood story. There are some shocking bits in this story and it’s so well crafted.

I started this story when I was at work. I forgot I was on break and was truly pissed when I was interrupted. I know 2024 just started, but this book got me feeling like this will be my year. I’m not going to touch on editing and formatting, though there were a few errors because it does not take away from the story.

On a personal note, I am deeply satisfied with how this story ended, let me say it again, deeply satisfied. Amalia is not what they say she is, don’t call her crazy, she’s a trailblazer.

I’m not hyping when I say this story is top-tier. Don’t sleep on this read it today. When you do drop me a line, I would love to know your take on Amalia or Ivory.
