Ault Park abandon rail track
I featured this scene in Saving Lucy. While doing research I came across this park. Mainly because I knew that Lucy has a fondness for railways. This park is accessible. While I
found some interesting news about this part of the park and its possible future.
The location Lucy describes is in the heart of Ault Park. On the west of the bigger bridge. Hint: it’s the one you can see from red bank road. Let me say that I did not walk the trestle. I’m terrified of heights. However, I was in awe by the graffiti, that Lucy described as a “message board” and I wanted to get a closer look.
The tracks look like the wood was very old and fragile. Despite the assurances from several people the tracks would not cave in I stayed put. Just looking made my heart drop. Now for the interesting news…
There has been talk about reviving the area. The abandon bridges are currently owned by Wasson Way Project. A plan to connect Avondale to Newtown via “rail to trails.” A bike/ recreation path is according, Ronny Salerno.
Personally, I would love to see that happen. How amazing would it be if the Wasson Way Project expanded to include Cincinnati’s streetcar as well? Amazing but likely? No. This is a city that doesn’t understand the advantage to having a rapid transit service. Granted it will cost a nice sum to get the project finished but, this could put Cincinnati on the map.
